Stars gather for Gary Player Invitational South Africa


The Gary Player Invitational South Africa, presented by Coca-Cola, will celebrate its 11th anniversary at Fancourt from 18-21 November with one of the strongest fields ever assembled for this global charity tournament.

Former Ryder Cup player Sergio Garcia, American Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin, double US Open champion Retief Goosen, Ladies European Tour sensation Lee-Anne Pace, Champions Tour star John Cook, and West Indies cricket legend Brian Lara will join Grand Slam champion Player in headlining this year’s field at The Links.


Football stars Lucas Radebe and Dwight Yorke, and All Black rugby great Zinzan Brooke add to the stellar line-up of celebrities, while some of the leading businessmen who have thrown their support behind The Player Foundation’s cause to raise funds for underprivileged children are Dr Hans-Walter Peters, managing partner of Berenberg Bank, and Alex Maditsi, executive director of Coca-Cola South Africa.

The format of the tournament sees a business leader partnered with a golfer from the regular tour, the Champions Tour, and a celebrity.

Marc Player, CEO of Black Knight, expressed his delight at the high quality field.


“Golfers are phenomenal at giving back, and we are all thankful that we have such a strong field of influential business leaders, world-class golfers and celebrities all committed to the aim of this tournament, which is to raise money for charity,” he said.

The beneficiaries of this year’s tournament will be the Masizame Children’s Shelter, Twilight Children and the Bana Development Centre.

“A field of this quality is a fitting tribute to the 11-year history of this tournament, which in this time has raised over R30 million for charity. I have no doubt that this year’s tournament will be one of the greatest successes in the history of this series,” added Gary Player.
