Player Profiles: Carly Booth
As a youngster, Scottish born Carly Booth was able to practice on a course made exclusively for her and her brother, professional golfer Wallace Booth, by their father Wally at the family farm near Comrie.
At the age of 11, Booth became the youngest Ladies Club Champion in Britain when she won the club championships at Dunblane New. Twelve months later, 12-year-old Booth teed it up alongside the professionals in the British Masters Pro-Am. She was ranked the number one junior in Europe after winning the European Junior Masters in 2007, the same year that she lifted the Scottish U-18 and U-21 titles. In 2008, Booth became the youngest player in the history of the 76-year history of the Curtis Cup to represent Great Britain and Ireland against the USA at St Andrews.
Booth, who won the Daily Telegraph Finals in 2007 and 2008, also played in the Junior Ryder Cup in 2006 and 2008.
At 14, Booth finished as the leading amateur in the 2007 Scottish Open (T13) and 2008 Ladies English Open, where she tied for 29th.
She completed her golf scholarship at Glenalmond School in Scotland after she returned from America, where she had a brief spell at the David Leadbetter’s Academy in Florida and a school in Arizona. She joined the paid ranks in 2010, taking 14th place in the Final Stage of the Ladies European Tour Qualifying School. She became the youngest-ever Scot to qualify for the LET at the age of 17.
In her rookie season, the 18-year-old juggled playing golf with completing her A-Levels. It proved to be as busy as anticipated, and Booth did well to achieve 3 A levels whilst playing on The Ladies European Tour. On the golf course, Booth made half the cuts in her 19 starts and ranked 98th on the Henderson Money List with earnings of €16,743. Among her highlights was a tie for 23rd at the Ladies Scottish Open, 31st at the Hero Honda Indian Women’s Open and a tie for 33rd at the Turkish Airlines Ladies Open. She has retained her playing rights and went into 2011 with high hopes that she will translate her unrivalled success on the amateur circuit to the professional tour.
After a handful of missed cuts at the start of the season, Booth finally broke through with a share of 21st at the Deloitte Dutch Ladies Open. She followed a share of 58th at the Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open with her best finish to date this season, a tie for 19th at the Ladies Scottish Open. Her other top finish was a recent share of 24th at the Sanya Ladies Open. She is currently ranked 107th on the Henderson Money List with earnings of €12,668 after 14 starts.
Carly recently became an ambassador for “V”, the independent charity dedicated to helping young people volunteer in ways that matter to them. She is a young, extremely talented golfer who is full of ambition, energy and determination to achieve at the highest level. She made her Gary Player Invitational presented by Coca-Cola debut at The Links at Fancourt in George in 2010.
