DJ Spoony is the stage name of Johnathan Joseph, a British DJ, and former BBC Radio 1 presenter born 27 June 1970 in Hackney, London.
Spoony began his career on the underground radio station Kiss FM. Recognised for helping kickstart the UK Garage music movement in the Nineties, he is also a former BBC Radio 1 DJ and now presents the football phone-in show 606 on Radio 5 Live. Spoony is a supporter of Breathe a new film-making competition from Channel 4’s 4Talent about the dangers of smoking and Cancer Research UK. Spoony enjoys playing golf and is a big fan of sport in general. If he has time, he sneaks off to Stoke Park in Buckinghamshire, Urban Golf in Soho or Smithfield. Dj Spoony is also good friends with golfer Ian Poulter and DJ’d at his wedding at Woburn Sculpture Gallery in 2007. He is a supporter of Liverpool FC and, as a child, he wanted to be John Barnes or Kenny Dalglish.
In 2006 he also took part in the fourth series of Strictly Come Dancing competing with Ola Jordan. They were eliminated in the third week of the competition. In June 2008 he was one of the celebrities who took part in a Six pack in six weeks challenge for the magazine Men’s Health.
