Player Profiles: Henrietta Zuel

Henrietta Zuel

Henrietta Zuel may still be better-known to some under the name she used to go by, Henni Brockway. She adopted her mother’s maiden name following her parents’ divorce and joined the Faldo Series for young golfers at the age of twelve. At 12, she started playing in the Faldo Series, which was formed to encourage young golfers. She was involved for four years, travelling to America and Asia and spending time with the great man himself.

She had her breakthrough at age 17 when she won the Girls British Open Championship at XX.  Zuel was inspired to become a professional golfer at the age of nine while watching The Masters and her desire to play the sport was fuelled by watching José María Olazábal win that year. Eight months later, their daughter demands her first set of clubs for Christmas. Within a couple of years she is down to a single-figure handicap and her stepfather has to erect an outdoor light in the garden so she can practice all hours on winter evenings, filming herself with a camcorder. Along the way, Nick Faldo and David Beckham were among her guiding forces.

Zuel first played LET events at the age of 16 and turned pro at age 18. She enjoyed her best showing of her very young professional career in the Ladies European Tour S4C Wales Ladies Championship. Zuel was the second-round leader, and finished tied for third, one stroke off the lead.
The glamorous Zuel also has a passion for fashion and would like to design her own retro clothing line in the future and shares this love of fashion with Beckham, whom she has met through mutual contacts at 19 Entertainment, the management group that runs American Idol, the England football team’s commercial interests and the Spice Girls.
