Player Profiles: Ron Boon
Ron Boon is the chairman of KeNako Academy , situated in George on the Garden Route. He is a huge golf enthusiast, plays off a six handicap and is a member of Oubaai Golf Club.
Boon has a classical marketing background. He started his career with Colgate Palmolive in 1975 and moved to Henkel in 1979, where he was part of a team that launched Henkel’s South African consumer division. In 1982 Boon founded what later became known as the Exp Group, a company that became a global leader in the field of experiential marketing, which ultimately operated in 46 countries around the world. The South African ExP Sponsorship division was launched in the mid 2000’s and became one of the major sponsorship agencies in the country. Boon retired as the CEO in 2007 and as Chairman at the end of 2009.
His passion for sport and golf led to his vision for KeNako in the early 2000, but it took some years before he was able to realise his dream. From this vision KeNako, which means the time has come or it is time in Sotho, was born. The KeNako Academy is defining a new space in the evolution of sport, combining scientific analysis with real life experience. Incorporating golf, physical and mental well-being, nutrition, visual and medical well-being, KeNako also recently launched KeNako Executive, a stress and wellness division in partnership with the Neurocare Clinic Group.
Boon also sits of the Board of the Marc (Sail) Group.
